There is no question I love raising cattle and producing lean, healthy beef. I am passionate about preserving the ground our cattle run on, and allowing wildlife to balance the ecosystem.
I am also passionate about nutrition. I am not the definition of health by any means, but I am committed to fueling my body, working out and being healthy. This last year has been wild, and I feel like I finally workout again, and nailing my macros.
All of this being said, I have spent a lot of time in doctor offices this year. No one has said much about my weight, mental health or how to manage any of this. In discussions with my family this week about their experience with doctors and management of our Lynch Syndrome diagnosis. They have been told not to eat red meat. This has been a continual battle that we all hear in the media. The root of this has come from Harvard, with little basis. I can go on about this, but that is not the focus on this blog today.
That being said, I totally support you and whoever else in eating what they prefer and what works for your body! And doing your own research, be open to learning and taking something from everyone around you.
The point of this whole post is to share a list of books I saw and am still working through when I was at a conference in 2017. A vet from animal health company presented about the change in the American diet, the push in the 1980’s away from protein and fat from animals and food history. I wish I had his name to give him credit, but I don’t remember. If you want to read and make your own mind up about the American diet and issues facing our society, I highly encourage you do so!
