Lynch Syndrome: The Hidden Genetic Demon
When I found out I had a large tumor partying in my colon, the doctor said, I am 99 percent sure you have Lynch Syndrome. She asked if anyone else in my immediate family has had cancer, yes, my Dad at the age of 47 passed away from pancreatic cancer. Cancer under the age of 50 stopped her, and responded with yes, 99.9 percent sure. Cool, what is Lynch Syndrome? Simply, Lynch Syndrome is a condition that increases the risk of many kinds of cancer. Beef Bashing and Light Reads
There is no question I love raising cattle and producing lean, healthy beef. I am passionate about preserving the ground our cattle run on, and allowing wildlife to balance the ecosystem. I am also passionate about nutrition. I am not the definition of health by any means, but I am committed to fueling my body, working out and being healthy. This last year has been wild, and I feel like I finally workout again, and nailing my macros. All of this being said, I have spent a lot of time in Read More

The wildest part of all this unexpected adventure, has been the outpouring of support, love, and kindness from people coast to coast. It’s been an amazing opportunity to catch up with friends, talk to Read More
The Face of Cancer
A woman isn’t supposed to state her age. As I turned 35 this winter, I thought to myself, we are going to accomplish a lot this year. Nick and I purchasing a house, remodeling said house, getting married, maybe finding some ground to run cows on and keep the genomics marketing rolling for Neogen. Maybe even a vacation. Insert hard left. I started to have a pain in my side in September. I thought that’s strange, but it went away and I moved on. Then my seatbelt kept irritating that same Read More
Tips and Tricks to Create Your Custom Cornhole Boards
ESPN is broadcasting cornhole tournaments nearly every weekend. So why aren’t you trying out for your local team? Is that a thing? I am currently searching for a team. Who wants to enter up? I had so many questions when I built my first set, and then the sixth set, but I found less real answers on truly building a set of regulation boards. I can't say this is the best information, but this is what I learned. I have had a love hate relationship with building six sets of boards. Love is when Read More

Post Op from Colon Cancer
I had no idea what I was really going to experience when I came out of surgery to remove the giant tumor parting in my ascending colon. I have had teeth pulled and a few stiches, but that is it. I wanted to share a few things that made my recovery decent. Unfortunately, with colon cancer being on the rise, I have shared these tips more than I would like to have in the last year. Family and Friends My family and friends get all the credit for checking in, bringing food, sending flowers, Read More
March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month!
It’s Colon Cancer Awareness Month! I mean there couldn’t be a better reason to celebrate…I was going to make a joke, but I will let you interpret. Let’s review some quick facts about colon cancer: So why do I still care, because I have a remission status: I am one of the lucky ones. I didn’t have to have chemo or radiation. Surgery took a foot of my colon, but it was able to prove that the tumor, aka we called Lucifer, hadn’t spread. Lucifer was donated to science; I hope Read More
I’ll be Gluten Free if it Means No Chemo
I was joking, as I have through most of this unexpected adventure that if I didn’t have to have chemo, I would totally and willing try and keep gluten out of my diet. Good news, I am still gluten free. NO CHEMO. Dr. Dan, my oncologist, gave me the option of chemo or not as the tumor didn’t impact my lymph or perineural systems. It was “poor differentiated” therefore it means it was aggressively growing. It is a gray area based on the research. My decision was built around only having one Read More
